Meals on Wheels Delivers Well-being
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our Meals on Wheels Program delivers dozens of delicious fresh cooked hot meals to home-bound seniors three days a week. The seniors receiving a hot meal, also receive a frozen meal for the days in between which includes weekends.
We are especially proud of the wonderful volunteer drivers who pick up hot meal cases at Senior Center and deliver them to the home bound seniors on their routes. They use their own vehicles for delivery and receive mileage reimbursement. They report that their contact with “their” seniors is a rewarding and satisfying task.
One further thought about Meals on Wheels: in a rural place like ours, many of these seniors “fly under the radar” of even their closest neighbors, sometimes going for days and days without seeing anyone. The contact with “their” driver is, in many cases, the closest and best contact they have with real people in the outside world. This contact is the best way we have of making sure that all our seniors are cared for.
MOW Eligibility: Individual must be 60 Years old or older or disabled. Individual must be home-bound and unable to cook or shop and lacking assistance. $5 per meal voluntary donation suggested.
